About Us

Main content start

Since 2002, SOOP has been enhancing interpersonal relationships, fostering community, and instilling personal confidence in San Francisco Bay Area youth through facilitated outdoor experiences. We lead hiking, camping, and rock climbing trips for high school students, many of whom come from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the outdoors. We currently work with East Palo Alto Academy, Eastside College Preparatory School, and Carlmont High School's AVID program.

Trips

Camping is where we drive all the gear into a campsite. The format of these trips usually allows for time to explore the area, and includes activities such as day hikes or a beach visit. This is a great way to experience a new place and get to know and bond with fellow participants.

Indoor Rock Climbing happens at Stanford's indoor climbing facility. These are action filled days where students gain confidence and team building.

Day Hikes are an excellent way to explore the Bay Area. Each location we visit provides a different opportunity to learn about a unique California ecosystem and spend some time outside. As always, games are a must!
