Resources for Stanford Volunteers
SOOP Club (@ Stanford)
SOOP is a Stanford student-run service club that meets biweekly. Regardless of any hiking/camping/climbing experience, any Stanford student can join.
With due paperwork, you can lead SOOP trips for students, and with additional course work and training, up the ante of leadership!
At meetings, we train to be leaders, plan our SOOP trips, and bond as a close-knit group of service-oriented nature-loving leaders! See below for more information on training required for SOOP leaders; however Stanford students can still be a part of the club and make valuable contributions planning trips and facilitating school visits prior to completing all the required trip leader training. For more information on how to join SOOP:
- join our mailing list;
- join our Slack (look up "SOOP");
- and join our Google Calendar!
Meetings
We meet every other Monday from 8:00-9:00 in the Trancos Lounge (in Wilbur)!
Training
SOOP leaders go through a rigorous training process to ensure they can safely conduct a fun, educational, and supportive outdoor experience for our students. However, trainings are very manageable and some involved SOOP leaders even first join SOOP with little to no outdoor experience.
